Water-based varnish is mainly composed of three categories: resin, solvent (mainly water), and functional additives (wear-resistant agents, defoaming agents, etc.). It is colorless, odorless, highly transparent, non-toxic, and almost free of organic volatiles. It generally appears as a milky white liquid. Acrylic resin systems are more commonly used, and some special products are water-based polyurethane systems.

Main Technical Points of Water-Based Varnish:
- Viscosity (coated with No. 4 cup, Cai En cup, rotary viscometer, etc., constant temperature 25 ℃)
- pH value (pH meter, 8.0-9.2) is shown in following figure
- Gloss (gloss meter 60° angle, 5-80° adjustable)
- Wear resistance (wear tester, usually 4 pound pressure A4 paper or customer specific paper)
- Solid content (oven, 150℃, 30min)
- Anti-adhesion (whether it is necessary to resist dripping adhesion, the higher the gloss, the worse the anti-adhesion)
- Heat Resistance (Testing required for specific products)
- Water Resistance (Paper boxes exhibit a lotus leaf-like waterproof effect; colored boxes feature non-adhesive waterproofing when in contact with water).
- Drying Speed (Different printing methods have different drying speeds).
- Other Properties (Resistance to white oil, alcohol, etc.)
